Jasper, Alberta
Location
Jasper is the northern terminus of the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93), where that road joins the Yellowhead Highway (Highway 16). The town is sited inside Jasper National Park.
Description
Jasper is a small, touristy town. It is however not yet so crowded or commercialised as Banff, although it shows every sign of going that way. Because of its location, accommodation in Jasper is likely to be expensive and may often be fully booked despite the large number of motels. As a more pleasant and less expensive alternative, you could try Hinton.
A brief stop for a walk along Jasper's main street, with the railway station on one side of the road, is recommended. There are a number of expensive restaurants along this road but little or no fast food (the A and W which was here some years ago appears to have closed). We did manage to find one small supermarket.
