Most of these web sites offer versions in the English language (look for "Anglais", "Engels", "English" or a Union Jack flag). However, some sites are only available in their own national language.

Dutch Public Broadcasting Organisations (Publieke Omroep Organisatie: AVRO, BNN, EO, KRO, NCRV, NOS, Radio Nederland, TROS, VARA, VPRO, etc)

Naturally most of this site is in the Dutch language but there is also a small amount of information in English. For television programme schedules click the "Gids" button or go direct to Gids. Dutch analog radio broadcasts on medium wave (AM) can be clearly received in the east of England. Dutch analog terrestrial television programmes can occasionally be received in the east of England, during periods of high pressure. Both links verified Sep-03.

EMAP Digital Radio

Includes information on some of the radio stations available on the Freeview digital terrestrial television system. Verified Nov-03.

Freeview (UK national digital terrestrial television service)

Freeview is the third attempt at launching a digital terrestrial television service in the UK, following the collapse of OnDigital and ITV Digital. A digital terrestrial television decoder is required, costing around 80 pounds to 120 pounds. There is no subscription charge for some channels, but an optional monthly charge is made in order to receive the recently introduced Top-Up TV channels, thus making a mockery of the name "Freeview". With the UK government desperate to sell off the analog television bandwidth to mobile phone operators (not realising that the mobile phone market is now saturated), the Freeview service is largely subsidised by BBC licence payments. The Freeview web site includes reception details (by postcode) and out of date information on the channels available. Verified Mar-04.

ITN (Independent Television News, UK)

ITN produces news bulletins for ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. Verified Jul-97.

ITV (Independent Television) (UK national television channel with some regional variations)

Ketnet (Belgian national television organisation)

See also Canvas on this page. Both Ketnet and Canvas can occasionally be received in the east of England, during periods of high pressure. Verified Jul-01.

Nozema

Nozema is responsible for most of radio and television transmitters in the Netherlands. Their site has full information on transmitter locations, channels and frequencies, together with many photographs. Most of the site is naturally in the Dutch language but there is a small section in English. Verified Nov-03.

OnDigital/On Digital

See Freeview on this page.

Radio 10 FM (Radio Tien FM) (Dutch national radio station; classic pop music)

For pages in the English language click the "Engels" button. Verified Aug-01.

Radio 10 Gold (Radio Tien Gold)

Medium wave (AM): 1395kHz (215 metres) at a relatively low power, and 1008kHz (298 metres) at a much higher power which can be clearly received in the east of England. The 1008kHz transmissions started on 1-Jul-04 and it seems likely that the 1395kHz transmissions will cease in due course. Verified Jul-04.

Sky Television

The UK's satellite television monopoly. Verified Jul-01.

Talk Sport Radio (UK national radio station; sport, phone-ins and discussions)

Medium wave 1089KHz (275 metres) and 1053KHz (285 metres). Verified Aug-01.

Teletext - ITV/Channel 4 Teletext (UK)

This web site is an alternative source of the information on the ITV and Channel 4 teletext service. Verified Feb-03.

Veronica (Dutch broadcasting company)

Verified Mar-02.

Virgin Radio (UK national radio station; pop music)

Medium wave 1215Khz (247 metres) and on FM in the London area. Verified Aug-01.

Teletext

For up-to-the-minute travel information, visit the travel information sections on teletext. Teletext is an information service which is broadcast as part of the television signal in most European countries. It can be received on most modern television sets. The technology is similar to that used for closed captioning (subtitles) in the USA and Canada. In Britain, on BBC1 and BBC2 the travel index is on page 430; on ITV it is on page 160 (information correct as at Oct-00). Both of these services provide the latest information on roads, railways, ferries, the London Underground and flight arrivals at many British airports. This information is also available on the teletext services' web sites. In Britain these are BBC Ceefax and ITV/Channel 4 Teletext. Teletext services also have extensive news and sports sections and details of television programme schedules, plus much other information.
