Trainz Hintz - A Step-By-Step Guide To Making A Very Simple TRS2004 Scenario

TRS2004 Scenario Creation Tutorial - Part Eight: Operations In Surveyor

Option One: Create A Simple Test Layout

Run TRS2004 and select Surveyor from the main menu.

From the Surveyor menu, click "Create New" to create a new layout. Give the new layout a suitable name and select any desired choice of region. Leave the Session Name as Default.

There is no need to to add any ground textures, or to raise or lower any of the terrain, or to add any vegetation or buildings.

Create a railway track which runs the width of the layout's single baseboard, or along its diagonal if you prefer. The track can be straight or curved.

In the Track tab, click the Trackmark Mode button, which is the rightmost of the three large circular buttons at the top of the tab. Within the list of items, select "Marker", which is a solid red triangular shape. Near one end of the track, left-click so as create a Trackmark which points along the main length of the track. Don't put the Trackmark too near the end of the track, as there has to be sufficient room behind it for the train that the user will be driving. For this simple scenario you can accept the default name of "Trackmark 0" but in a real scenario you would probably want to give the Trackmark a meaningful name. If the trackmark is pointing in the wrong direction, use the relevant button in the Track tab to rotate it.

No signals, buffers or other track features are required.

The layout should now look similar to this:

Save the layout as normal but do not exit from Surveyor yet.

Invoke the Surveyor menu option "Export Scene Data". This menu option will create the scenario's basic folder and file framework. Give the new scenario a name of your choice.

Exit from the layout and the Surveyor menu, then close TRS2004.

Option Two: Use An Existing Layout

A rather more complex procedure is required when creating a scenario for an existing layout.

To initially create the scenario:

If it is later desired to modify the scenario's trackside objects, then:
