Trainz Hintz - A Step-By-Step Guide To Making A Very Simple TRS2004 Scenario

TRS2004 Scenario Creation Tutorial - Part Two: The Differences Between Driver Sessions And Scenarios

For the normal user, the differences between Driver Sessions and Scenarios are relatively straightforward: Technically, the difference is much more complicated and I won't pretend to fully understand it. For example, at the Razorback Railway, Larry ("Jenolan") has developed a way to compile a TRS2004 scenario's source code into a TRS2006 Driver session.

One particularly important difference is that a Scenario can use a modified form of a layout with additional trackside objects such as trackmarks and triggers. The user only needs to have the basic layout installed and the Scenario automatically adds the other trackside objects it requires when it runs. As far as I know normal Driver Sessions created in Surveyor cannot do this.

TRS2004, TRS2006, Trainz Classics (also called Trainz Railways and Trainz Railwayz) and TS2009WBE provide facilities for creating and editing Driver sessions in Surveyor, and for running them.

TRS2004 provides facilities for creating the framework for scenarios in Surveyor, and for running them. TRS2006, TC and TS2009WBE do not have either of these facilities.

Some Trainz documentation refers to Driver Sessions as Profiles. Some Trainz documentation refers to Rules as Behaviours or Behaviors.
