Try contacting the manager at your local shop, store or location, who should be able to tell you how to contact the company's headquarters in order to make an inquiry or a complaint.
The company's headquarters address may be printed on any of their products, or in their newspaper or magazine advertisements, brochures, promotional literature, etc.
See if you can find details of the company on a web site which discusses the prospects of various companies for potential investors or franchisees.
The company may have an entry in the telephone directory (white pages or yellow pages) for inquiries and complaints. In North America this will probably be a toll-free 1-800 number.
Visit the company's web site. The External Links section of this web site may be useful. Otherwise, try the following domain name search engines:
You may find some of the following web sites useful sources of information:
Many of the US state and Canadian province official state and provincial tourist office web sites have facilities for requesting vacation planning packs.
Some US and Canadian motel chain web sites have facilities for requesting directories and/or making reservations.
The PassengerRights web site provides a facility to register a complaint about a travel-related company which will be directed to the company concerned. The same site also offers advice about complaining, together with some sections covering related subjects. Companies covered include airlines, car rental, cruise lines, hotel chains, long distance bus lines, motel chains, passenger train services, tour operators and travel agent associations. Only US companies are covered, plus possibly Canadian. External link verified Jul-02.
The Consumer's Resource Handbook (CRH), published by the United States Government Consumer Information Centre (CIC), contains an extensive database of company addresses to which customer complaints can be sent. It also includes an excellent collection of good advice for consumers and the contact addresses of numerous US consumer organisations and relevant state and federal agencies. The document is available in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) (1634KB download), HTM or TXT formats. Link verified May-99.
To find a local newspaper's web site, try the following:
The United States Embassy in London, UK The "Visa Services" section includes full details of visa requirements for visitors to the USA from Britain and how the Visa Waiver Programme operates. The site also has links to some US travel information sites. Verified Jun-04.

Recreation.GOV - Recreational Opportunities on Federal Lands This site contains a searchable database of information provided by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, Fish and Wildlife Service, Forest Service and National Park Service, plus map information provided by the US Geological Survey and weather information provided by the US National Weather Service. When I visited this site in May-98 it seemed to have great promise but all attempts at using its facilities failed with an error message saying "Timed out waiting for data source or its driver" - presumably due to the server being overloaded. However, this site might well be worth trying.
University of Texas Map Collection Contains scanned copies of maps of almost all of the United States National Parks. Because the files are large the maps take some time to load but are extremely useful. Verified Jul-02.
Detailed information on many of the dams in the USA can be obtained from the USACE (United States Army Corps of Engineers) web site.
The rec.travel.usa-canada Internet news discussion group, to which questions can be posted. Replies tend to be very informative. As with all news groups, some of the spam postings on this news group may be unsuitable for children. Posting messages yourself is likely to cause you to receive spam email messages some of which may be unsuitable for children.
The Internet search engines are an excellent means of finding information, although that's probably how you found this site in the first place of course.
If you are looking for information on a specific town then try the local newspapers' web sites, many of which include local information on the towns that their newspapers serve. See above for two sites which feature links to numerous newspaper web sites.
